Tsavo East National Park is not only one of Kenya's oldest national parks but also the largest in size - nearly 22,000 square kilometres. The park is named after Tsavo River and can be accessed by three main gates. If you are coming from Voi, the Manyani gate is what you would get into the park through. Those coming from Mombasa use the Bachuma gate. If coming from Malindi, Sala gate would be the most convenient.Combining a visit to Tsavo with one to the nearby Amboseli National is an unforgettable experience.
The Park is divided into Tsavo East and Tsavo West with both parts of the park having a warm and dry climate. Some of the places to stay in the park include a wide selection of lodges and camping facilities.
Among the park's major attractions is the Mudanda Rock which is a 1.6 km stratified rock that acts a water catchment area with a reservoir that is a major watering hole for many animals including the big five. The Yatta Plateau is also found in this park and is famed as the world's longest lava flow. Other attractions include Lugard Falls,Aruba Dam and also the rich biodiversity including over 500 bird species.
