Day 1: LUSAKA - MFUWE, LUANGWA VALLEY
On arrival at Mfuwe International Airport, you will be met by our representative. From here you will be transferred to the Luangwa Valley.
The LUANGWA VALLEY, which marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, is one of the last unspoilt wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa. It covers an area of over 9000 sq. km. through which the meandering Luangwa River runs. The oxbow lagoons, woodland and plains of the valley host huge concentrations of game and over 400 species of birds.
To explore this wilderness, there are three superb owner-run camps from where you can enjoy day game drives, walks and night drives. Robin?s camps are known world wide for their atmosphere and care for the guest.
This is where you will spend the next 4 nights. Check-in to your camps and get yourself settled. The park is reputed for its up-market accommodation, amenities and conveniences. Here you will also enjoy wonderful game activities.
Overnight at Nkwali Camp, Tena Tena Camp or Nsefu Camp
Day 2 - 4: LUANGWA VALLEY
Spend the next 3 nights here, enjoying your days at this superb wildlife park, showcasing immense wildlife populations and an abundant birdlife.
Game viewing here is nothing short of excellent!
Grazers, browsers, predators and scavengers of all manner of shapes and sizes roam the South Luangwa horizons. Common residents here include: elephants, buffalo, giraffes and a variety of antelopes plus some species exclusive to the park: Thorneycroft?s giraffe, Cookson?s wildebeest and the Crawshay?s zebra.
Lions and hyenas are also regulars here and are complemented by the elusive leopard and the rare Africa wild dog that make a sort after treat on every safari. Birdlife is simply plentiful with over 400 species to be counted.
The Luangwa River is afloat with numerous waterfowl and spreads with large families of crocodile. More abundant though are the hippopotamus as the Luangwa holds the world?s largest single population of hippos.
Overnight at Nkwali Camp, Tena Tena Camp or Nsefu Camp
Day 5: LUANGWA VALLEY, MFUWE ? LUSAKA ? JEKI, LOWER ZAMBEZI
On this day, you are transferred to Mfuwe for your flight to Lusaka.
From Lusaka, you will catch another flight to Jeki Airstrip in Lower Zambezi.
With the dramatic backdrop of the Zambezi escarpment and the wide, clear watered Zambezi River this park has spectacular landscapes and views. The game viewing is excellent and the boating on the river gives a varied safari. The elephants and buffalo regularly cross the river and feed on the grass covered islands.
Your stay is at Chiawa Camp, set deep inside the park, on the banks of the Zambezi River and in the heart of big game country
Overnights at Chiawa Camp
Day 6: LOWER ZAMBEZI
You are set to enjoy nature?s generous gifts to the Lower Zambezi National Park, complemented by activities like Game viewing, Boat trips and Fishing ?All dependent on season.
The park with its gigantic baobab and acacia trees provides the perfect setting for an African safari. Out gaming, you are likely to encounter: the lion, leopard, herds of elephant and buffalo, hippo and over 300 bird species.
Scenically bordered by an impressive escarpment, game can be viewed from either the river or on land.
Overnights at Chiawa Camp
Day 7: JEKI, LOWER ZAMBEZI ? LUNGA, NORTHERN KUFUE
After breakfast, depart Lower Zambezi for Northern Kufue.
Kafue National Park is another special safari destination. The oldest and largest of Zambia?s game parks, Kafue covers an astounding area of 22,400 square km making it Africa?s second largest national park.
The Northern Kafue is a mix of Miombo forest broken by ?dambos?, a local term for open grass areas. It is particularly good habitat for sable, roan and Lichtenstein?s hartebeest as well as reedbuck and oribi. The major rivers in the area are the Kafue and the Lunga, which are clear flowing with thick, lush, green riverine vegetation lining the banks, hosting rich birdlife.
Dinner & Overnight at the Lunga River Lodge
Day 8 ? 10: NORTHERN KUFUE
Your stay for the next 3 nights is at Lunga River Lodge and Busanga Plains Bush Camp.
LUNGA RIVER LODGE is situated on the banks of the beautiful Lunga River where it enters the park in the North Eastern border. The six chalets are large and extremely comfortable. The camp has a swimming pool, platform over the river, and a steam room. Activities include game drives and walks in the pristine bush and boat excursions along the river. Boating on the river is a bird watchers dream, and very peaceful.
The BUSANGA PLAINS BUSH CAMP which is located on a fig tree ?island? in the middle of the plains, is a small 6 bedded camp. Accommodation is in comfortable thatch huts, with en-suite bush showers and long drop toilets.
From Lunga River Lodge a game drive through an exceptionally old Miombo Forest and over the flood plain to Busanga Bush Camp is a great opportunity to see sable and roan. The North Western section of the Kafue Park is dominated by the Busanga Plains, a seasonal flood plain fed by the Lufupa river system.
In essence a mini Delta during the rains, which dries up in May/June attracting large volumes of game, noticeably lechwe and puku as well as the large plains game species such as roan, sable, hartebeest, zebra and wildebeest. The concentration of plains game attracts a good number of lion and cheetah.
