Day-by-Day Programme

Give yourself over the splendour of Tanzania, from the flamingo-lined shores of Lake Manyara to the magic of the Serengeti. Walk with humankind's prehistoric ancestors and gallivant with Africa's Big Five on this unforgettable trek through Tanzania.

Day 1: Arusha - Lake Manyara National Park

A hippo cools off in a freshwater lake, seemingly oblivious to the thousands of flamingos that witness its afternoon bath. Zebras gallop across the open savannah, quickly surpassing grazing African buffalo and loping giraffes. In your peripheral vision, you catch the switch of a lion's tail amidst the leafy branches of a nearby tree. Tall grasses wave in the breeze, nature's warm welcome to Lake Manyara National Park. Our evening game drive introduces you to these and other wonders of Tanzania.

Dinner and overnight at a camp in Mto Wa Mbu.

Day 2: Lake Manyara - Serengeti National Park

As each new mile disappears behind us, the verdant plains of Lake Manyara fade to the sun-dried savannah of the Serengeti. You've seen these gnarled acacia and scorched grasslands before: in your dreams. The Serengeti is the Africa of Hollywood, the place where safari caravans come to a standstill to make way for stampeding giraffes, hunting lions, and lumbering elephants. But the Serengeti – Maasai for "Endless Plains" is even more than movie magic suggests: its boundless savannah shelters millions of animals, including Africa's Big Five, comprising the largest and highest concentration of wildlife anywhere in the world. And you'll have your first taste of the spectacular Serengeti on an afternoon game drive.

Dinner and overnight under tents in the Serengeti.

Day 3: Serengeti

In a world of incredible sights, the Serengeti's breath-taking offerings have earned it a spot on the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa and the Ten Natural Travel Wonders of the World. These accolades are owed to the intense biodiversity found here, including 500 bird species, cheetah, gazelles, African wild dogs, giraffes, and of course, the Big Five: the African buffalo, black rhinoceros, bush elephant, leopard, and lion.

Our full-day tour through the wilds of the Serengeti sends your heart into overdrive, as each rapid beat taps out the excitement of seeing these fierce animals in their natural habitats. And that's not all: if you've timed your trip right, you'll also witness the largest land mammal migration in the world, the Great Wildebeest Migration. The pounding of tens of millions of hooves reverberates through our safari van as 750,000 zebra and millions of wildebeest (gnu) charge across the Serengeti and into Kenya's Maasai Mara, on the hunt for sustenance and shelter.

Dinner and overnight under tents in the Serengeti.

Day 4: Serengeti - Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Travel back almost two million years, to an ice age of woolly mammoths and sabre-toothed wildcats… to the time of humankind's first ancestor. Here, in the Olduvai Gorge, the famed Dr Louis Leakey discovered the remains of Homo habilis, or handyman, widely considered to be the first leap toward human evolution. Walk through history and enjoy a picnic lunch in the shadow of our ancestry, before driving to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Dinner and overnight at Simba Campsite.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Conservation Area & Ngorongoro Crater

A massive, collapsed volcanic crater sits at your feet; clouds kiss the summits of rolling mountains; a lush carpet of grassy plain unrolls into eternity… this is Ngorongoro Crater, Africa's "Garden of Eden" and a candidate for the New Seven Wonders of the World. Here, you can spot nearly every species present in East Africa. Here, you'll traverse the largest inactive, intact, and unfilled volcanic caldera. And here, you'll witness one of the best game-viewing spots in the world, where 25,000 animals jockey for your attention during our half-day tour of the crater. After lunch, we depart for Karatu.

Dinner and overnight under tents at Karatu.

Day 6: Ngorongoro - Arusha

After breakfast, we return to Arusha for lunch. We'll arrive in time for late afternoon flights or an overnight in the city.
