Day-by-Day Programme

This whirlwind getaway whisks you to the shores of the Great Ruaha and Mkata Rivers, year-round draws for thirsty elephants, lions, leopards, and zebras. Adventurous safaris take you over savannahs and into parched grasslands to search for Africa's iconic wildlife.

Day 1: Dar es Salaam - Iringa

The sun-weathered streets of Iringa welcome you to lunch at Kitonga Inn Lodge. You'll continue your acclamation overnight, at the Iringa hotel.

Dinner and overnight at Iringa Hotel.

Day 2: Iringa - Ruaha National Park

A young lion cub rolls through the African bush, beckoning is watchful mother to follow. A herd of buffalo graze on green grasses, their stoic eyes trained on nearby predators – including our safari van. The Great Ruaha River sidles through the savannah, its muddy shores fringed with thirsty elephants, toothsome hippos, and sunning crocodiles. We've kicked off our African safari with an evening game drive through Ruaha National Park, the largest national park in Tanzania and a haven for birdwatchers and animal photographers.

Dinner and overnight at Ruaha River Lodge.

Day 3: Ruaha

Just minutes into the morning's game drive, you already know that a full-day tour is the best way to see Ruaha. Leopards roar across the grasslands, sprinting at speeds up to 37 mph (60 kph). Elephants bathe in their favourite watering hole. Zebras, confident in the camouflage afforded by their coordinated zigzag, migrate across the savannah.

Dinner and overnight at Ruaha River Lodge.

Day 4: Ruaha - Mikumi National Park

Swirling mist rises off the road, as the ascending sun warms away the cool of night. We chase the sunrise west into Mikumi National Park, where a short game drive introduces us to the wonders of this nature reserve. A king lion, crowned by his fluffy mane, surveys his kingdom of parched grasslands and lush floodplains. His mate climbs into a nearby tree, immediate evidence of the park's rare tree-climbing lion population. Sable antelope, greater kudu, and eland graze the foothills of surrounding mountains. Elephants bath in the Mkata River, where tiny islets welcome more than 300 bird species.

Dinner and overnight at Vuma Hill Camp.

Day 5: Mikumi - Dar es Salaam

An early morning game drive offers a final chance to bask in the splendour of Mikumi National Park. After lunch, drive back to Dar es Salaam and arrive in time for afternoon flights or an overnight in the city.
