Day-by-Day Programme

Discover two sides of Tanzania, from the wild savannahs of the inland national parks to the opulence of oceanside Zanzibar. You'll have a chance to spot Africa's Big Five and rare tree-climbing lions before you escape to beautiful Zanzibar.

Day 1: Arusha to Ngorongoro Crater

The cosmopolitan cuisine of Arusha welcomes you to Tanzania, with a stopover for lunch at the Arusha Hotel. Then, swap modernity for the wilds of Africa's bush – a total escape into scenic countryside and Africa's Garden of Eden. The day's drive delivers you to Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed volcano and the largest inactive volcanic caldera on the planet. Tomorrow awaits with ancient lava fields and Africa's Big Five.

Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater

You are perched on the edge of an ancient volcano. A green carpet unrolls at your feet, Tanzania's open plains stretching to the crevassed mountains in the distance. Few ever visit this Garden of Eden, a candidate for the New Seven Wonders of the World and home to 25,000 animals – almost every species present in East Africa. That, of course, includes the much-prized Big Five: African buffalo, black rhinos, bush elephants, leopards and lions.

Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 3: Ngorongoro to Lake Manyara National Park

Our vehicle rumbles to a sudden stop. As we approach Lake Manyara, nature has exploded before us: A hippo stands knee-deep in the sparkling lake, its brilliant pink backdrop courtesy of thousands of flamingos. Buffalo congregate on the open plain and leopards stalk the grasses in search of their next meal. The tell-tale switch of a lioness's tail gives away her location in a nearby tree. This is Lake Manyara National Park, a treasure trove of natural riches and wildlife sightings – and the exhilarating destination for this evening's game drive.

Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge.

Day 4: Lake Manyara to Zanzibar

A mid-morning transfer to Arusha and afternoon flight delivers you by evening to the white sands and aquamarine waters of Zanzibar. We'll greet you at the airport and whisk you away to the  BlueBay Beach Resort, located on one of the widest and whitest fine-sand beaches in the nation. You'll want for nothing in your cosy cottage, surrounded by palm trees, the azure ocean, a glimmering beach, and a refreshing swimming pool.

Dinner and overnight at Bluebay Beach Resort.

Day 5 & 6: Zanzibar

Close your eyes and envision a place of infinite tranquillity. Now, let your mind's eye scribble in some bleached sands and turquoise ocean (make sure it's the transparent, it-must-be-Photoshopped kind of turquoise). Add in a backdrop of stone buildings, worn by the ravishes of time. This is Zanzibar, an island of incredible beauty and spectacular history. You'll spend the next two days here, indulging your senses with delicious cuisine and relaxing spa treatments, or challenging yourself to scuba diving the coral reef, windsailing, and big game fishing.

Dinners and overnights at Bluebay Beach Resort.

Day 7: Zanzibar to Home

After breakfast, head to the Zanzibar airport for your international flight home.
