Mt. Kilimanjaro National Park
General Information
History of the park dates back to a century ago. It is located in
the northern circuit of Tanzania's tourism trade, making it a popular
national park. It is located near Moshi, Tanzania's largest town.
Within the park is Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain.
The park has six rights of way through the Kilimanjaro Forest Reserve.
Despite its close proximity to the equator the mountain contains
huge deposits of ice glaciers. Equatorial to arctic conditions are
thus present in the park.
The mountain represents the general world image
of Africa. It's snow capped symmetrical cone is a well known image
and as a result of its popularity many people make it an endeavor
to climb the great mountain.
Getting There
The park is accessible by tarmac road 48km from Moshi and approximately
90km from kilimanjaro international airport.
Major Attraction
The most exciting activity would have to be mountain climbing. Climbing
can be done at almost any time of the year, but it is best to avoid
the rainy season. Elephants, zebras, antelopes graze the flat plains
within the park, leopards can be seen hunting for game.
