Day-by-Day Programme

Discover the breath-taking beauty of exotic Zanzibar, home to sultan's palaces and personal riches built through slave labour. Travel back centuries, to a UNESCO World Heritage City and through slave caves, as you explore the other side of this ocean island.

Day 1: Zanzibar

Upon arrival, we whisk you away to your hotel in Zanzibar's historic Stone Town. The elegant, oceanfront hotel is your gateway to Zanzibar's UNESCO World Heritage City – memoirs from a time of sultans and palaces. Enjoy the afternoon and dinner at your leisure.

Overnight at Zanzibar Serena Hotel.

Day 2: Spice Tour and Mangapwani Slave caves

Step back into history, into Zanzibar historic Stone Town, where sultans once occupied palaces along the Indian Ocean. Your tour begins with spice tour which involves visiting spice area to see and learn different spices, and even a chance to taste. Then we continue on to the ruins of Maruhubi Palace, built by Sultan Barghash in 1880 to house his harem but later burned to the ground in 1899.

History blends with scenic beauty in Mangapwani Village, the "Arab shore" of Unguja and the former property of a wealthy Arab who dealt in the island's slave trade. Explore several of the area's slave caves, including the popular "Coral Cavern". Relax the afternoon away on Mangapwani Beach, and return to Stone Town aboard a local dhow (traditional sailboat). Lunch will be at Serena Restaurant in Mangapwani.

Dinner at a Restaurant in Stone Town.

Overnight at Zanzibar Serena Hotel.

Day 3: Cultural Tour

Step into a local's Zanzibar, an island home to enduring traditions, rich culture and everyday life. You'll visit special villages on a cultural tour of the town and its local school – and have a chance to make a few friends. Discover the traditional flavour of Zanzibar – literally – at a local restaurant before returning to your hotel (alternately, you are welcome to enjoy a picnic lunch after the tour).
